are what I eat in a day videos a diet culture practice? Try this intuitive eating approach to nutrition

person taking photo of food. birdseye view.

Honestly, this is one of the reasons dieting and “what I eat in a day to eat X grams of protein” is so attractive: rules, straightforward steps, visualization. Eat this, not that. This amount. At this time, not this one. For this many days until X goal achieved.

Can we find nutrition structure without restriction? Absolutely.

If you’re on a loop trying to determine what to eat and if it checks all the boxes, I want you to try my 4-step intuitive eating approach instead:

  1. Of what’s available to me at the moment, what sounds good? Prioritize your satisfaction.

  2. Of my big nutrients, who’s present in that meal? [e.g. carbs, fiber, fat, protein]

  3. Which nutrients are not present?

  4. Do I want to add them now? Or can I prioritize them in the next meal?

From here, the hardest part is following through and not overthinking it. Make a decision, see how it goes, observe how you feel.

Food is not all or nothing, and I know it feels like it is. That’s not your fault.

A few things that help?
